Description/Job Summary

The Farm Financial Analyst provides expertise in financial analysis and business planning to farms or farm related businesses.  This position could be located in any of Yankee Farm Credit branch locations.

Responsibilities/Duties

Business Consulting - Budgeting:
  • Creates budgets using industry knowledge and judgment
  • Compares actual results to the budget
  • Creates financial projections based on knowledge, judgment and management guidelines
  • Works with LO sharing most likely projection developed for credit decision and financial progress on the farm
  • Initiates, grows and maintains client relationships
  • Provides industry and best practice information when necessary
  • Markets the consulting program through sharing information, writing articles, conducting promotional events
  Financial Analysis and Projections:
  • Enters balance sheet/earnings statement/cash flow data into budgeting tools by:
    • Categorizing all assets/liabilities and income/expenses into the proper category
    • Reconciling earning statement by identifying and correcting discrepancies and/or asking for more information
    • Adjusting debt service to accurately reflect what transpired during the year
  • Generates and reviews farm financial analysis reports
  • Identifies intercompany transactions and removes from consolidated financial statements
Dairy Benchmark Program and Other Projects:
  • Participates in special projects
  • Assists in develops project scope and plan
  • Executes project plan and tracks results
  • Coordinate dairy benchmark data collection efforts, including with staff
  • Generates and reviews farm financial analysis reports
  • Identifies intercompany transactions and removes from consolidated financial statements

Required Qualifications

Education requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in agricultural business management, economics or a closely related field.
 
Prior work experience:
2-4 years of experience in business, finance and/or operational consulting services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge and skills:
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of agricultural economics
  • Knowledge of economic principles
  • Working skill in developing budgets
  • Working skill in analyzing financial data
  • Working skill in analyzing information to formulate logical and objective conclusions
  • Skill in making business recommendations using a systematic, evaluative, information-based approach
  • Advanced skill in utilizing Excel to analyze complex data and increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Working skill in planning and coordinating a wide variety of projects
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining productive relationship with clients
  • Expert customer service skills, including the ability to communicate complicated information, deliver bad news effectively, and exceed customer expectations
  • Skill in oral and written communication, sufficient to discuss a variety of job-related topics
